Why NDIS Bathroom Renovations Matter
Bathrooms are one of the most common areas of a home where accidents can happen. That’s because wet floors, tight spaces, and awkward layouts can increase the risk of slips and falls. Especially for people with limited mobility or disabilities.
NDIS bathroom modifications are designed to reduce the risks associated with everyday activities like showering or using the toilet. This includes everything from simple changes, such as installing a shower chair, to larger home modifications, like wall removals.
The NDIS generally fund standard modifications that are considered reasonable and necessary supports. This means you don’t have to use your own money to fund the work.
NDIS Bathroom Renovation Options
At Torrens Facility Management, we provide our NDIS participants with a range of home modification services. For bathroom renovations, they include:

Stepless & Roll‑In Showers
A stepless or roll-in shower removes the raised hob to create a level access into the shower area. This is ideal for wheelchair users or anyone using a walker.
These designs make showers more accessible. They also reduce trip hazards and make transfers easier and safer.

Accessible Toilets & Transfers
We can adjust toilets to suit your individual needs. This includes correcting its seat height and positioning. Additionally, we can install grab rails around the toilet to provide you with extra support when sitting or standing.

Vanities, Basins & Storage
Our team designs accessible vanities specifically to make them easier for you to use, particularly in specialist disability accommodation. They can include roll-under basins that provide knee clearance and lever taps. Both are easier to operate than traditional fittings.

Doors, Layout & Circulation Space
One of the best ways to improve access in your home is to widen doorways or change how the doors open. For example, in bathrooms, sliding or cavity doors can free up valuable space that would otherwise be lost.
For more complex modifications, we can move or remove walls to create more room for wheelchairs.
Our NDIS Bathroom Renovation Process
At Torrens Facility Management, we are committed to giving NDIS participants more independence, improved accessibility, and a better quality of daily life. Here’s the process we adopt for bathroom renovations.
Referral & Initial Chat
Most projects begin with a referral from an occupational therapist, support coordinator, or directly from NDIS participants or families.
We’ll review your NDIS plan. Then we will discuss your goals with you and review any available documents or reports.
Onsite Assessment
We will then visit your home to assess the existing bath area. Whilst doing this, we will take note of your layout, plumbing, and access points. From this, we’ll develop a renovation plan that takes your unique needs into account and fits your budget.
NDIS‑Compliant Quote
Once the plan has been drawn up, we will show it to you along with a detailed quote. This will clearly outline the scope of work. The materials and assistive technology that will be used. And the timeline for completion.
If needed, we can assist you with the documentation required for your funding approval.
Construction, Safety & Handover
Our experienced tradespeople complete the renovation with minimal disruption wherever possible.
Once complete, we walk you through the finished space to make sure everything works as intended and feels comfortable for you to use.
Aftercare & Adjustments
After handover, we remain available to assist you with any small adjustments or follow-up work.

Floors, Fixtures & Safety Features
As part of an NDIS bathroom renovation, we can provide you with features like non-slip flooring, correct drainage gradients, and well-placed fixtures. All of which contribute to a safer environment.
Other additions might include:
- Handheld showers
- Secure rails
- Improved lighting
- Temperature-controlled water fittings
